Saturday July 4th, Paul Zipes will be holding a free yoga class on the beach at 5:30 am. Yogi’s will be found that morning, literally on the beach at Rick Seltzer Park, across from Mr. Surf’s Surf Shop. The class is free, but donations will be accepted. All donations will go to providing yoga mats to a U.S. military base in Iraq where soldiers requested them.
I’m just now getting back into yoga, and if you are a yogi, or an aspiring one, come out for a sampling of this area’s only stand-alone yoga studio.

Florida’s Great Northwest recently hosted its 7th Annual Focus Northwest Florida Event which included a stop at the site of the new Panama City/Bay County International Airport.
The event provided site selection consultants, investors, developers and business executives from all over the world an opportunity to learn about the region and meet the area’s business and political leaders.
The 2008 event is believed to have been the largest site-selection consultant event held in the United States with 40 consultants attending from 13 different states and one consultant from France.
The group heard briefings from Airport Executive Director Randy Curtis, PBS&J’s Darren Larson and Bay County Economic Alliance Executive Director Ted Clem about the progress of the relocation project and what to expect at the completion of construction.
Afterwards, several members of the group got a bird’s eye view of the project via helicopter.

Before heading out the door remember to grab your camera, video camera, flashlight(s), glow sticks, candy bags, an extra tube of face paint and wet wipes. Where would we be without those wet wipes?
‘Malloween’ at Pier Park

Bring the kids out for trick or treating, a costume competition, festival maze and special treats.
Sign up at 6 p.m. for the costume contest. There are three age categories, as well “scariest,” “most creative” and “best-all-around” categories. So get out that glue gun and get creative!
Panama City Mall
Let the little ones terrorize the Panama City Mall in their quest for candy.

Monstrous Halloween Celebration at Rosemary Beach
(Not located in PCB, but just across the bridge for those who live on the West end)
Trick-or-Treat, from 4-6 p.m.
Let the little goblins trick-or-treat in downtown Rosemary Beach. Visit Gigi’s Fabulous Kids’ Fashion and Toys and have their Halloween photo taken.
Monster Bash, from 6-8 p.m.
Join the fun at The Summer Kitchen restaurant. Children $5, adults, $10. Cost includes scary food and non-alcoholic beverages.
Two other restaurants, Wild Olives and Cowgirl Kitchen are hosting Halloween specials for the big (21 and older) kids.

Probably one of the most anticipated events of the year (at least in my house). What is spookier than trick-or-treating with lions and tigers? Get ready for a wild night of fun.
The costume contest begins at:
6 p.m. = ages 3 and younger
6:15-6:30 p.m. = ages 4-10
6:45 p.m. = ages 11-15
7 p.m. = 16 and older

The construction of the new Panama City – Bay County International Airport is ahead of schedule. The entire 1300 acres of the initial footprint is cleared with crews to start paving the main entry way from 388 in the next couple of weeks.
The recent approval of the state budget that included $12 million from the state will fund the first extension of the runway. Day one of operation for the new airport will include a full 10,000 foot runway. In addition, all the preparatory work will be done so that when they need to lengthen the runway to the full 12,000 feet, it will take a mere matter of months.
Something else that is cool about the construction of the new airport is that the terminal will be LEED certified using all recycled material. The stormwater treatment will be 50% greater than what is required.
There will be an additional 1400 acres outside the airport property that will be used for commercial development.
