Airport Nearly Complete With Pictures To Prove It: Control Tower Pics Too

We spent the afternoon touring the new airport site. From the outside, there is still so much land-work to do one would think the open date set for May 23rd is utterly unreachable. But, once we ventured into the terminal it became clear that the airport will definitely make its date. Already, many of the necessary systems are in place, the drywall is up and tile being laid. The baggage claim area is nearly complete and upstairs 4 of the 7 gate bridges are already in place. We even took the 10 story trip up the control tower and took in the view of the whole place and, man, it looks spectacular. I could bore you with all the superlatives, but, why would I when I have pictures. Take a look.

  2. Knew there would be someone with a comment about “wetlands” LOL. Its a great airport, Southwest is the best news I’ve heard in a long time. This is exactely what this area needs to start weaning itself away from the pack of animals they call the Spring Breaker.

  3. How many gates will the new terminal have? Southwest did nothing for our trip to PCB.
They offer us high prices, 2 stops and an 6-8 hr trip depending on the flight. For decent fares and shorter flights we have to stick with Delta now flying NW’s old route through Memphis or taking theirs through Atlanta. We avoid Atlanta at all cost.

  4. Waste of money, great way to destroy the pristine untouched west bay. Hope all you sellouts like living in Orlando. No public parking at the beach, current roads and infrastructure can’t support current traffic, rising utility costs, idiots on the TDC doing the marketing for Spring Break. First new airport to be built from the ground up in the entire US since 9-11, sure hope we “need” it.

  5. Great pictures. Please keep up the good work. Looking forward to the overall growth to the area due to this airport. This is our financial stimulus. I wonder if we will ever satisfy the negative attitudes —

  6. I still find it more convenient and less expensive to fly from Ft Walton Beach. I just booked my flight to Chicago in June and saved over $120. Southwest will help this region, but is by no means the savior everyone says it is.

  7. anyone know the logistics of where this airport is? Sounds crazy, but when I called the TDC they gave me an address that is so knew it is not on GPS or Google. Is there a nearby address I can use for reference and anyone know how far it is from Pier Park.? Thanks

  8. Can’t wait for the 1st international flight from/to Europe! This will help our Real Estate market in Nortwest Florida for sure. Florida is one of the favorite places for Germans to go to in the cold season. And not everybody likes a Miami atmosphere.

    1. There won’t be any international flights anytime soon. There just aren’t not enough people in this area to fill such a large airplane. The airport has been called an international airport for years and have never had any international traffic. A geographic location change will not change that either…
