Panama City Beach Dining Review – Fatty Patty’s Cakes & Café

Every once in a while, I stumble upon a restaurant or eatery of some description that impresses me so much I feel compelled to share. This time, it’s Fatty Patty’s Cakes & Café, located on the west end of Panama City Beach Parkway close to the Wild Heron. Fatty Patty’s is half bakery, half café, and though some may be familiar with the name synonymous with wedding cakes, not everyone knows that this is actually a really cool little place to eat, too.

Firstly, the cakes. Having had the pleasure of trying a selection of flavors and seeing some past wedding cake designs, all I can say is wow. If you are ever planning to tie the knot – Fatty Patty’s cakes have been featured in wedding magazines such as The Knot and Gulf Coast Bride.  Not crazy about a pre-frozen plain old yellow cake? Owner and baker Renee Schaarsehmidt makes all cakes from scratch the week of your wedding, and offers a plethora of flavors to choose from. Almond Cream Cheese, Banana, Black & White, Carrot Cake, Coconut Cake, Dark Chocolate Fudge, German Chocolate, Key Lime, White Chocolate – I could go on and on. There’s an equal number of scrumptious icing flavors too, and the fact that you can mix and match makes the selection process so much fun! The designs are absolutely beautiful, real quality, and Renee can custom make just about anything. It’s not just wedding cakes – Fatty Patty’s can make a cake for any occasion, and every time their goal is to provide a cake that stands strong, tastes terrific and looks beautiful.

Fatty Patty’s café is one of the best locally-owned cafes in Panama City Beach, but because of its location, it’s easy to miss for those in the center of town. The café is situated just a little west of Cyber Sytes on Back Beach Road, just ten minutes from Thomas Drive, and has a strong following of regulars from nearby Wild Heron, Carillon Beach and even out towards Rosemary Beach. Small, friendly and brightly decorated, Fatty Patty’s café offers breakfast and lunch Tuesday to Saturday, and features daily specials that alone are worth the trip. The breakfast menu includes the breakfast casserole – sausage or ham with potatoes, green onions, pepper jack cheese and eggs, served with a homemade biscuit or toast, yum. Lunch consists of a wide variety of soups, sandwiches and salads, all fresh, homemade and delicious.

So, if you’re looking for somewhere different to grab breakfast, a lazy brunch or a business lunch, I highly recommend Fatty Patty’s – located at 21903 Panama City Beach Parkway. Call (850) 236 9276 for more details, or visit the Fatty Patty’s website.

  1. Every time I have frequented this place they have been rude. There is a waitress with a foreign accent that will not seat customers when they enter and she will then ask them to get up and move with a very rude attitude. I own a home on the west end and was a regular customer. I will never return.

    1. Sir, with all my respect for a regular customer, I do remember your only one visit to Fatty Patty’s. The place was almost empty and your party was only two people. You sat at the only one 6 top table we had available and I asked you to sit on a table for two (or 4), because my boss was having a wedding cake meeting shortly. You did move to another table and asked me why you can not stay at the big table, I explained the reason and you, after looking few minutes at the menu said there was nothing you liked and left. I am sorry if I sounded rude to you, I know I have strong accent. The place is small and most of the time gets full for minutes, that’s why every sit is importent. I have always tried to sit everybody who comes there in a comfortable spot.
You should try it again next time you are in town. The food is great and the service improved since I am not there. I will miss all of the real people who I met there. I loved it!

  2. I must admit that their cakes are awesome. I wanted a custom cake to celebrate a birthday and I found Fatty Patty online. We are from Nashville and I had never visited Fatty Patty’s, but I took a chance and they made an awesome birthday cake. I was so pleased and cannot wait to order another one. Their attention to detail with my order was excellent and their service was superior.
Congrats Fatty Patty!! Great article and we hope to visit for lunch next time.

    1. Well, I tried! You obviously are the type that just can’t be pleased. Our food is fresh, homemade food. We proudly use Sysco (check your spelling) as a supplier of some of our products along with Adam’s Produce, formly St. Clair’s produce, aside from that we use local vendors for our supplies.

Thank you for your comments and thank you to my customers that supoprt us and enjoy coming back for our “home cooked” food! We look forward to sharing time with you for many years to come!

  3. Renee;
I have not been in your store. After reading your replies to the costomers comments, I feel too much anger in your replies.
To correct another’s spelling is rude.
I have had two stokes and I do miss spell words all the time.
Be nice to your costomers, and ex costomers, they may come back if you do not insult them.
I wish you luck with your store, but I will not be there.

    Don.

  4. My grandmother always said, “if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything!” One disgruntled “customer” doesn’t paint a disastrous picture of the restaurant, but of the customer himself!

  5. Okay so i know this place like the back of my hand. Food wise i dont ever eat it. I have seen the kitchen at its best and its worst. I have seen the cooks serve raw chicken, country fried steak, floppy greasy parcooked fries. just from that i dont think they should be the best cafe on the beach. Renee aka the owner takes advantage of her staff and people that come to eat there. Her waiter amanda sits around n talks to everyone when she could be waiting tables. And tells people how broke she is to get a better tip out. cakes on the other hand why even serve buttercream iceing that is mostly lard and greasy stinky sh**. oh n to top that dont tell people how to spell pretty shure they went to school.sisco sysco one letter was wrong you still knew what he ment to say. So thats all i really need and have to say about this sticky tabled raw food serveing family cafe. And keep it down in the window everyone hears yall swearing. And that big dude talking about how sexy girls are not even women half the time girls. thanks for your eyes and time they took to read this…… – NoName.
