Amavida Coffee Hosts “Christon Anderson Art Opening”

The unapproachable urban vibe of Christon Dee Anderson is often in place to filter objectionable attitudes and cloak his kinder gentler persona. A black child born into the eighties was certain to be challenged and, unwavering, he met them head on. From an early age he spent a great deal of time drawing and showed a passionate interest in the arts. Born and bread in Florida’s Northwest panhandle provided an opportunity for other talents to blossom. His skill and ability at baseball, and later football, were recognized and in high school he received local and state accolades. The journeys outside his everyday routine opened his eyes to a whole new world. Although his stardom through making it into the record books was a bit hard to swallow. After a stint in the military he returned home with a hunger to find his voice and be heard. With local luminaries, Roland Hocket he studied drawing and was fascinated by the

artistic visual possibilities of photography under the tutelage of the late Johnnie Ihlfeld.

Anderson cast his bread upon the waters and was encouraged by commissioned works and fine art portraiture. These positive responses continue to bolster those with serious interest in his work.

Self proclaimed as SOPHISTICATED GUTTER, awarded and scooped up by emerging collectors and the seasoned art crowd, Christon Dee Anderson, from mild to wild, has clearly developed a recognizable style. Using a variety of traditional mediums, stand alone and meld, he creates visionary, intuitive, abstract, three dimensional works of ART. Christon evokes memories and fiery emotions through his antagonism and social criticism. Anchors to his stormy sea of creativity, Christan’s wife, Kristina, daughter, Isabel Rain, and son, Coleman Ray, are and will forever be works in progress, forever providing inspiration.

Healthy Souls Yoga Fundraiser starts Saturday for Aaron Nichols

Healthy Souls Yoga program at Woodlawn United Methodist Church in Panama City Beach kicks off a month long fundraiser for the Aaron Nichols Medical Equipment Fund this Saturday, January 5th!

The Yoga meet up this weekend welcomes all  experience levels and is slotted for 800 to 930 am.  There is only a $5 minimum suggested donation, but you can give what you desire.  This will be one of the first classes this month with 100 percent of the profits going to aid the Aaron Nichols family to purchase medical equipment he desperately  needs.

Those of you that do not already know, many area businesses have already been hard at work raising money for Aaron in response to this past November’s Celebrate the Arts, in hopes to help with a piece of equipment called the RT300,

The RT300 is believed to make a dramatic difference in his recovery and pave the way to get him walking again after the car accident in 2007 left him completely dependent up on others.   The equipment costs over $20,000, and they are about a third of a way there.  Every little bit helps though and with the compassion of folks like this, his goal is looking more and more achievable.

If you can not make this Saturday’s Yoga Session and Meet Up, no worries, the Healthy Souls group will be raising money for Aaron ALL MONTH LONG, with many classes to choose from:

Mondays at 5:45 pm

Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 8 am

All classes are open to men and women and no experience is needed.  Classes meet in the Youth/CR Building of Woodlawn United Methodist Church (across from Arnold Highschool) at 219 N. Alf Coleman Road.

The program makes available community yoga mats , along with blocks and straps.  However, if you have your own, you are encouraged to bring it.

Certified Yoga Instructors Laurie Olshefski, Judy Christian and Sandy Beitz hope that you  stretch your body and lift your spirit!  Their program is definately Yoga on A Mission, with a 100 percent of class donations going to local community missions, whether it be a family in need or a donation to organizations like Beach Care Services.

For more information, contact Judy at jchristian58@comcast.net or visit them on Facebook: Healthy Souls at Woodlawn.

You may go to  www.meetup.com/pcyoga to register for Saturday’s class.
