TDC to Discuss MTVu and New Web Site Presentations

The TDC meeting scheduled for Thursday at 2pm in the council room should be very interesting to say the least. On the agenda will be to discuss the MTVu program and hear from the interactive agencies bidding to build the new “Panama City Beach” web site.  I fully expect the meeting to be long and arduous and some tough decisions to be made.

I also assume there will be tons in attendance, so come early.

I will be making live updates from my cell phone using the lovely Twitter service, so be sure to sign up and follow pcbdaily.  And be sure to set up your mobile devices if you don’t want to keep checking our twitter page.

TDC Meeting Agenda – New Marketing Committee?!?!?

Getting back in the swing, Tuesday’s TDC meeting guarantees spirited discussion.  In a surprise move, the TDC Marketing Committee was released late last week 15 months after they were originally appointed.  The reasoning was cited as the year being up.  I guess they didn’t want to release them at the beginning of the summer?  There are a few conspiracy theories floating around, but I’ll leave that to your imagination.  We’ll also see an update on the Panama City Beach Seafood, Wine and Music Festival, in addition to the Fall Marketing Campaign by the lovely Ms. Susan Estler.  Game On!

TDC ditches their brains, gets bested by competition

Perhaps this post isn’t necesary, but I feel it prudent to underscore Bryan’s comments and insight into the current actions of the TDC.

An interesting point is brought up, and that point is: why are we just now discussing the budget?

We had all summer with little or almost no activity regarding public TDC meetings.  It seems that there was ample time to discuss these issues and more.  Is there a reason the TDC meetings come virtually to a halt during the summer months?  This is the time we need to be discussing everything and making changes on the fly as needed.

Comments on the TDC/CVB FY 2009 Budget

As Jason posted, a special meeting of the TDC/CVB board has been called for Tuesday, September 2nd at 9:00 AM. Based on the Agenda and an August 29th letter from President Dan Rowe to the Board, I believe the board will actually vote on the FY 2009 budget on Tuesday rather than just discuss it. It is so amazing that the “New” TDC now appears to be engaging in a budget process that has been basically closed to public knowledge or input. During Tuesday’s meeting, I hope that the board explains the following:

1. Why is the board scheduled to “Consider for Approval” the FY 2009 budget at the same meeting when it is being publicly discussed for the first time? While I understand that the budget needs to be presented to the County Commission for approval by the end of September, I have no idea why the CVB has waited till the last minute to schedule the first and apparently last public meetings on the subject?

2. Why has the special meeting been scheduled on the first business day after the holiday weekend? And why was it announced just one business day before taking place?

Check after the break for more shenanigans!

TDC Meeting on Tuesday – to Discuss Budgets, Fun!

With the off-season pretty much here, regular TDC meetings will begin ramping up yet again.  Although this meeting has been called a “special” meeting, I think you’ll start seeing these agendas more often.

At the meeting Tuesday, budgets will be discuss for Panama City Beach, Mexico Beach, and Bay County.  Also, discussed will be fiscal year 2009/2010 TDC Plan Ordinance.

TDC Meeting on Tuesday August 12th – Agenda

Tuesday should be an exciting day of reporting and presentation. We should see some final numbers on the success of the Summer White Sale campiagn, reported in the News Herald this morning as a success, and we should hear about the fall marketing plan.

Seeing over $500,000 in “free national media attention”, it was reported that the Summer White Sale campaign was a success. With over 60,000 visits and almost 20,000 coupon downloads, the campaign is still producing consumers with coupons at local resorts and attractions. Bed tax collections are up 2% from the same period last year.

The agenda is after the break.
