Work Happy: The Happiest Coworking in Panama City

Imagine having an office where you are surrounded by the area’s most creative, talented and business savvy folks. Imagine those co-workers not only sharing a workspace with you, but becoming friends and sharing business, skills and more. Now imagine that space being a place that inspires, that teaches and works at all times to advance the folks who share it as well as the community around it. Well, what you are picturing right now isn’t a dream…that place actually exists, right here in our town. It’s called Work Happy, a co-working space unlike anything Panama City has seen.

If you do not know much about co-working, defined, it is a style of work that involves a shared working environment, but unlike in a typical office environment, those co-working are usually not employed by the same organization. Typically co-working is attractive to work-at-home professionals, independent contractors, or people who travel frequently, because it is also the social gathering of a group of people who are still working independently, but who share values, and who are interested in the synergy that can happen from working with like-minded talented people in the same space.

And, did I mention fun stuff like Ping Pong tournaments?

Co-working offers a solution to the problem of isolation that many freelancers experience while working at home, while at the same time letting them escape the distractions of home.

At Work Happy, co-working is not only about the physical space, but about establishing the co-working community first. By hosting community events and workshops like Learn HTML + CSS, Branding and Developing Your Niche, Railsbridge NWFL and others, they are not only enriching their members but educating the community. Work Happy’s credo is simple, “collaboration over competition, community over agendas, participation over observation, doing over saying, friendship over formality, boldness over assurance, learning over expertise, and people over personalities.”

In it’s short time, Work Happy has evolved into something more than a space and desks, but a force for good built to inspire, to teach, and to be a reminder that aspirations need not be a solitary endeavor. Work Happy is a community of people who could work from anywhere but choose to work together, more productively.

So why wait? If you need a desk, need space or just need to be around awesome people, now’s the time. You’ll be surrounded by local creatives who specialize in design, development, programming, photography, art, business and many other disciplines.

The Details

Work Happy is over 2,000 square feet of space. It has 20 desks, meetup area and is located at 231 East Beach Drive, downtown Panama City, Florida. It is sitting on Massalina Bayou (the last building on the left before you cross the draw bridge). The space has an awesome back deck with a spectacular view and is the perfect space for grilling out and hanging. Inside, Work Happy is colorfully designed and made with the intent to inspire creativity. It’s a space you have to see to believe and a vibe that stays with you long after you leave.

Desks at Work Happy start at $125 a month, part time and $175 full time.

If you are interested in renting a desk, just email hello@weworkhappy.com.

Healthy Souls Yoga Fundraiser starts Saturday for Aaron Nichols

Healthy Souls Yoga program at Woodlawn United Methodist Church in Panama City Beach kicks off a month long fundraiser for the Aaron Nichols Medical Equipment Fund this Saturday, January 5th!

The Yoga meet up this weekend welcomes all  experience levels and is slotted for 800 to 930 am.  There is only a $5 minimum suggested donation, but you can give what you desire.  This will be one of the first classes this month with 100 percent of the profits going to aid the Aaron Nichols family to purchase medical equipment he desperately  needs.

Those of you that do not already know, many area businesses have already been hard at work raising money for Aaron in response to this past November’s Celebrate the Arts, in hopes to help with a piece of equipment called the RT300,

The RT300 is believed to make a dramatic difference in his recovery and pave the way to get him walking again after the car accident in 2007 left him completely dependent up on others.   The equipment costs over $20,000, and they are about a third of a way there.  Every little bit helps though and with the compassion of folks like this, his goal is looking more and more achievable.

If you can not make this Saturday’s Yoga Session and Meet Up, no worries, the Healthy Souls group will be raising money for Aaron ALL MONTH LONG, with many classes to choose from:

Mondays at 5:45 pm

Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 8 am

All classes are open to men and women and no experience is needed.  Classes meet in the Youth/CR Building of Woodlawn United Methodist Church (across from Arnold Highschool) at 219 N. Alf Coleman Road.

The program makes available community yoga mats , along with blocks and straps.  However, if you have your own, you are encouraged to bring it.

Certified Yoga Instructors Laurie Olshefski, Judy Christian and Sandy Beitz hope that you  stretch your body and lift your spirit!  Their program is definately Yoga on A Mission, with a 100 percent of class donations going to local community missions, whether it be a family in need or a donation to organizations like Beach Care Services.

For more information, contact Judy at jchristian58@comcast.net or visit them on Facebook: Healthy Souls at Woodlawn.

You may go to  www.meetup.com/pcyoga to register for Saturday’s class.

The Beach Show Goes Gangnam

A Happy Note from Karen…

This is intended to bring great joy to you by the complete humbling of myself and the exposure of my complete lack of dignity through the art form of the gangham style dance.
It is worth the humiliation however for the greater good…..Britt and I are dancing for our friend Aaron Nichols who is in great need of medical equipment.
Please stay tuned to hear more about our project and see even goofier videos that I hope will bring a smile to your face. We had an amazing time learning this dance and I realized that I must join Weight Watchers ASAP after viewing. That is a whole other story!!! So be watching that progress as well.

Thanks so very, very much for all the support and love that all of you show me in consistent fashion. I cannot believe the growth of our sweet little Beachy Beach and the reason is clear… it is all of YOU!!!
I have a saying that I live and run my business by and it is, ‘The only people we have to get even with are
those that have helped us’
Thankfully my list has gotten long and many of
you are on it!!

We will back in full force with both beach shows NEXT WEEK so until then be sweet and thanks for your kindness and support!!!!

with the greatest of gratitude,
~Karen

Light up the Night In Sandestin for Shelterhouse

This coming weekend is Run for the Redfish at Pier Park then the weekend after, many of our PCB Daily friends are headed to Sandestin’s Baytowne Marina to light up the night with the Luminaria Run to END Domestic Violence at 5 pm on Saturday, December 8th.

Shelter House, the domestic violence center serving nearby Okaloosa and Walton counties, is once again teaming up with Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort for a unique twilight run that will shine the light on domestic violence in our area.

The Luminaria Run to End Domestic Violence will take place on Saturday, December 8, starting and ending at Sandestin’s Baytowne Marina. The course will be lined with more than 2,000 luminarias, lighting the path for the runners.

The race includes 5k and 9k courses winding throughout Sandestin. “We chose the 9k distance to represent that a woman is assaulted or beaten every nine seconds in the U.S.,” explained Shelter House Executive Director Michelle Sperzel. “The luminarias symbolize how Shelter House and our community partners light the way to a safer place for victims of domestic violence.”

Children are encouraged to participate in the run. This family-friendly event will include a party at the finish line featuring s’mores, thanks to the Destin Dream Team  and hot cocoa to keep us warm courtesy of San Gelato.

This is a twilight race starting at 5pm. Registration for the 5k is $25 for adults in advance or $35 on site and $10 for children in advance or $15 on site. The 9k race costs $40 in advance or $50 on race day for adults and $15 in advance and $20 on race day for children. Walkers are also welcome.

Luminary bags will be labeled and placed along the course in honor or in memory of loved ones. Bags are available through a $10 donation to Shelter House and can be purchased at the Shelter House office in Fort Walton Beach or on site the day of the race.

If you want to make a weekend out of it, you can……Sandestin is offering special rates for race participants wishing to stay at the resort. Call 800-622-1038 for reservations or reserve online at www.sandestin.com with the group code HOUSE2.

To register, please go to www.shelterhousenwfl.org or www.imathlete.com. For more information on the race, sponsorships or luminary bags, call Shelter House at 850-243-1201.

You can also stay tuned into the Luminaria Run via some of the Event’s generous media sponsors such as Sowal.com, 30a.com, SouthWalton.com and Destin Shines.

The inaugural Luminaria Run drew more than 260 runners last year and raised over $7,000 to help keep abused women and children safe.

Shelter House, Inc. is a state certified domestic violence center serving Okaloosa and Walton Counties and offering emergency confidential shelter, crisis counseling, a 24-hour hotline, children’s programs, information and referrals, education, professional training, safety planning and prevention services to survivors of domestic violence and their children.
