Tournament Fishing Will Take Place Next Weekend, Aug. 30 – Sept. 1 in Panama City Beach

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (August 22, 2008) Continuing concerns resulting from the approach of Tropical Storm Fay have caused the Grand Lagoon National organizing committee to cancel all scheduled events for Friday, August 22, Saturday, August 23 and Sunday, August 24 in Panama City Beach.

No Fishing at the Grand Lagoon National

Well, no fishing this week, at least.

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (August 21, 2008) The news from Panama City Beach is always good. Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night has ever stayed us from our goal of welcoming the world to the our shores. Sometimes, however, we have to meet our guests with an umbrella and just the sunshine of our smile. Tropical storm Fay has made this one of those occasions.

Welcome to Grand Lagoon National – Video and Almost Live Coverage

That’s right, you read correctly. Almost live coverage of the Grand Lagoon National Fishing Tournament. By Almost Live, I mean that I’ll be posting tournament results and updates as often as I can, but not exactly as they occur.

Crews were getting set up today for the events to start tommorrow, a day later than originally planned due to Tropical Storm Fickle Fay. Of course, now, Fay is expected to make her way back over our area Friday and Saturday.

Swim with a Red Flag, Get a Ticket

“Do you think a ticket system will help deter people from entering dangerous waters on Panama City Beach?” This was the latest pcbdaily poll trying to determine whether this would be an effective deterrence strategy and help reduce drownings in our warm gulf waters.

There wasn’t exactly a colossal difference between those who voted for the ticket strategy and those who voted against officers being empowered to ticket those ignoring the flag warning system. The poll ended with 55% voting for and 45% voting against.

Bed Tax Collections are UP, Business Numbers DOWN

Who said the Summer White Sale wouldn’t work? Well, although I was quite critical of the PCB Summer White Sale, I don’t think I ever said, verbatim, that it flat out would not work. But did it? Well, the answer is actually quite a bit more complex than a simple yes or no. Of course, that’s what makes the answer so much fun.

In a recent article, the News Herald reported that so far this year, compared to the same period last year, the bed tax collections are up 3.5%. This is true, additionally I found from October 2006 to June 2007, the bed tax collections were up to $3,953,245.77 or 11.77%. The 2006 number of $3,537,045.14 is up 3.04% from October 2004 to June 2005, and the 2004 numbers were up 5.94%. And because I always hate reading stuff like this in a paragraph, I’m gonna put it all in a nifty table:

Grand Lagoon National Suffers Changes from Tropical Storm Fay

Tropical Storm Fay is already reaching its sea fingers up our way to effect our newest fishing tournament on Panama City Beach. So far the effects only encompass a few delays.

In addition, Tropical Storm Fay has inspired a new Champion Award, the Miz Fay Grand Champion Award. This award will pay $10,000 to the angler who “comes closest to, or breaks by, the largest amount, the Florida State Record of any eligible tournament fish.”
