Think of what you’d like to see happen in 2012… Now think about what you’d like to see happen, but you know won’t in a million years happen. Those of us at PCB Daily wanted to share our list of far-fetched predictions and hopes for 2012, even though we know the likely-hood of them happening is slim-t0-none.
- The speed limit on Back Beach road near Pier Park goes back to 55mph, and even gets raised to 70mph (everyone goes that fast anyway)
- Panama City Beach locals will be admitted to both piers at no cost (aren’t our taxes paying for them anyway?)
- A theme park is built in Panama City Beach (with tons of giant roller coasters)
- IKEA finds a home in Panama City Beach (and in all of our homes)
- A Whole Foods is built here (preferably two or three)
- People stop complaining about the lack of jobs long enough to look at the many job listings that are emailed out daily (stop blaming for-profit corporations for making a profit)
- Not to hear about the Mayan calendar and the end of the world again (it’s predicted to end on December 21st, 2012 by the way so get your bucket list crossed off)
What do you hope to see in 2012 that won’t really happen?

Plenty of parking for locals to access the beach.
A spacious Convention Center for concerts and performances.

I was under the impression that a convention center or at least an area for concerts was supposed to happen anyway. Let’s hope the powers that be haven’t lied, yet again. Where the new WalMart is going would be good. What’s wrong with the old WalMart?

I disagree with the speed limit being raised to 55 or to 70. I think 45 is plenty fast enough, but I would like to see the police and the troopers doing a better job of keeping the speed legal, by handing out more tickets. If the police presence were common in the area, more people would drive the posted speed limit. Maybe another light, or at least a caution yellow, at the area where the accident happened not long ago that killed a 16 year old girl. Some people actually take those things seriously. Between a yellow caution light and the police, wow, we may actually get some law abiding drivers. Yes, yes, yes, on the amusement park, but only two roller coasters. A big one and a smaller one for the kids and those who are afraid to ride the big one, like me. Ikea, yes; locals getting to use the piers free, yes. I agree that our taxes are paying for something, right? Yes, on the Whole Foods. Anything is better than Wal-Mart grocery and I hate to say this, but I will anyway, Publix is just too expensive as an alternative to Wal-Mart, but better than Wal-Mart in most respects. Love Winn Dixie but they too are a bit high priced, but they do try with their incentive rewards card to help the regulars realize some bargains. Somebody do something about the sewer smell near Pier Park, actually near Palmetto Trace. I believe it is a lift station but really guys, in this day and age, add a freshener here or something.

The construction “era” on Thomas Drive between Pineaplle Willie’s and Club La Vela will finally come to an end.

Sidewalks on Front Beach Rd. Every major city in Fl has sidewalks along the beach except(although we are not a major city) PCB. WE could begin to act like a city by placing bike paths and sidewalks along Front Beach Dr. We would eliminate some of the car traffic by placing exercise stops along the bike or jogging paths. (Think Miami or Ft Lauderdale). Sidewalks along FBR would eliminate some of the parking in the right of way and cause some of the run down properties to rethink the best use for the property.
Try watching a mother push a stroller down FBR over rocks, cars backing out, cars parked in the right of way.

Remember when the CRA told us that the FBR would be transformed with sidewalks and underground utilities? But before this could happen, we needed to make roads to St. Joe’s future development fields.
We got hoodwinked. St Joe got their roads, on our dime, and we got nothing. Here’s the website: http://www.pcbonthemove.com/
How about using CRA money to benefit the tax base?
If PCB is not careful, the sewerage plant will expand and produce a 15 mile stench. Moving to Washington Co may be the only place to escape it. Not good for PCB.
