Circus is running full steam ahead

Almost three weeks into running, FSU’s Circus by the Sea at Frank Brown Park on Panama City Beach is running smoothly and having success.

I was out there today and they were heavy into circus camp with over 20 kids. Nate Stapp, Associate Director of the Flying Circus said that they have a capacity of around 60 kids.

They changed the ticket prices around a little. I was told that locals can get tickets for $15-adults and $10-kids and that it was spelled out on the website, but I couldn’t find anything that said that. On the website, it says that there is an online discount, $18-adults and $10-kids. Close enough.

July 4th at Pier Park

Be sure to come to Pier Park for the July 4th festivities.

Every year the fourth of July festivities at Pier Park on Panama City Beach goes out with a bang, literally. They will be shooting the fireworks from the beach, and the party will be at Aaron Bessant Park.

Starting at 5 and going to 9:30, there will be performances by Herd of Turtles and Stillhouse, and Veterans Memorial Rededication, and a Patriotic Pet Parade and Golf Card Decorating Contest.

Be there or be square.

Special Trip on the Pier Park Express TODAY at 11am

Ok, I realize this is totally last minute, but as I know that tons of people are looking here almost every minute of the day, I figured I’d put this up anyway.

Today, the Pier Park Express that is leaving from Walmart going to Pier Park at 11 am will play host to the singing Red Hat Ladies as entertainment and Julian Bennett as narrator.

Some of the items of historical interest will be the Petticoat Junction, Miracle Strip Amusement Park and The Hangout.

Again, remember that rides on the Pier Park Express are only 50 cents.

Grand Lagoon National on Panama City Beach

The newest sport fishing event on Panama City Beach, the Grand Lagoon National will debut this summer August 20 – 24.

From the website:

The Grand Lagoon National is really eight tournaments in one. Organizers are convinced that the unique format will appeal to virtually every kind of saltwater fishing enthusiast. A Big Game division, crafted to attract million dollar yachts and experienced competitors, will hunt for the elusive giant Blue Marlin, the Swordfish and the large Tuna that populate the Gulf’s summer waters. A Catch and Release category will also be provided for Blue Marlin, White Marlin, Swordfish and Sailfish. An Offshore Division will fish for Wahoo, Dolphin, Red Snapper, Grouper and Amberjack. An Inshore Division, limited to boats of twenty-nine feet in length or less, will fish for Red Snapper, Grouper, Amberjack and King Mackerel. To appeal to devotees of the Bay, a Flats Division will feature a Spanish Mackerel, Trout and Redfish competition. For visitors to the beach, families and those who love to bottom fish, a Party Boat Division will fish for Red Snapper, Grouper and Amberjack and will host a special Junior Anglers’ contest. What is being billed as “America’s Saltwater Fishing Tournament” will even include a special Dive Division for those who like to fish below the waters of the Gulf.

Bill Spann, who founded and for twenty-three years served as Chairman of one of the nation’s most recognized fishing tournaments, the Bay Point Annual Billfish Invitational, will serve as Tournament Chairman of the new event and is convinced that it will quickly establish itself as a tournament no serious saltwater enthusiast will want to miss. “The breadth of facilities, quality of fishing and the inclusiveness of this format justify the name “Grand Lagoon National”.

The FSU Flying Circus is almost ready to go – video!

The FSU Flying High Circus has come to Panama City Beach. They’ve got a ten-year contract with the city to be at Frank Brown Park. They put the tent up a couple of weeks ago and started rehearsal this week. The show will start next Friday.

All of the performers are students, some full time, some not, but all totally dedicated. Nate Stapp said the FSU Flying Circus has been performing for 62 years, the whole time in Callaway Gardens in Georgia.

In the next couple of weeks, it will turn into a “little city” with RV’s all around, concession stands, and a fence. The performers are staying at Seahaven and will be here all summer.

Check out the video after the break.

FSU Flying Circus on Panama City Beach – Update

Fight Club on Panama City Beach

Just east of Joan Avenue on south Thomas Drive a cage has been erected with a sign on it that says Fight Club. MMA cage fighting is being advertised: “Come watch the pro’s and Spar with your Bro’s.”

As if we didn’t have enough image problems, now we’ve got “cage fighting” right on Thomas Drive where all the tourists can see as they drive by.

And, to top it all off, a bikini bull riding contest.

Panama City Beach Seafood, Wine and Music Festival

When Jeffrey Wolfe’s Multi-Media and Beach Events both showed no interest in promoting this year’s Indian Summer Music Festival, a group headed by Marketing Committee member, Jack Bishop, stepped forward to take of the event. They are wanting to rebrand it as the Panama City Beach Seafood, Wine and Music Festival.

Wondering the history of the name “Indian Summer Music Festival” – I actually like the idea of rebranding it to the Panama City Beach Seafood, Wine and Music Festival.

The two things that keep my wife and I from these festivals is the food and the cost. We used to love going to these things, but every time we’d go we’d pay a fortune for crappy food. It sounds like with this, we may still pay a fortune to get in, but at least the food will be good (hopefully).

Check after the break for the full presentation document.
