CVB to Implement Beach Flag Warning via Text Messaging Program

In a much anticipated endeavor, the Panama City Beach Convention and Vistor’s Bureau has officially implemented a program that will announce beach flag warning updates via text message.

The idea is simple, improve safety through public awareness of the Beach Flag Warning System and to create another avenue for alerting locals and visitors of changing surf conditions. Partnering with the Bay County Sheriffs Office & The City of Panama City Beach Police Department, the text messaging program will alert the registered users of surf conditions, as well as changes in surf conditions that will cause a change of beach flag color.

The text messages will originate from either the Bay County Sheriff’s Office or the City of Panama City Beach Police Department.

Depending on the current surf conditions, the text message will include similar information to the examples listed below.

· Sheriff’s Office report: GREEN flags on COUNTY beaches

· Beach Police report: GREEN flags on CITY beaches

The text messaging program will complement other elements of Panama City Beach’s beach safety public awareness campaign which includes flying aerial billboards during double-red flag conditions, conspicuously displaying signs inside each rentable lodging unit along Panama City Beach, posting signs explaining the flag colors at every public beach access points, and public service announcements on billboards and on various media including radio and television.

If you would like to register your cell phone number to begin receiving these updates, please email your First Name, Last Name, Cell Phone Number (Including Area Code)and Email Address to social@visitpanamacitybeach.com.

  • Price/SqFt: $100.15
  • 3 Bedrooms, 2 Bath
  • Built in 2004
  • This is a move-in ready home in Palm Cove right off of Middle Beach Road. Centrally located in Panama City Beach, this neighborhood is a great deal for a first time home buyer. With lawn maintenance and watering included in the association fees of under $300 per quarter this is a great low maintenance home. The neighborhood has two community pools and this is one of the most sought after floor plans that includes a garage.

Deal 2 – Foreclosure in great neighborhood

  • List Price: $158,500
  • Square Feet: 1,450
  • Price/SqFt: $109.31

There’s a lot of square footage for the money.

Deal 3 – 2/2 Gulf Front Condo Furnished for $215k

Show Notes

Deal 1 – Handyman Special

  • List Price: $79,900
  • Square Feet: 1,320
  • Price/SqFt: $60.53
  • 3 Bedrooms, 1 Bath
  • Built in 1974
  • This is a Handyman’s Special and definately needs a little love, but for the price, it may be an awesome fit for you. This kitchen is damaged, but there is still some granite to work with. The carpet would probably need to be replacing and some work would need to be done on some of the walls. There is a pretty rough mother-in-law house out back that appears to have plumbing and electricity to it. This is a foreclosure listing being sold by the bank.

Deal 2 – Sunnyside Dedicated Beach

  • List Price: $219,900
  • Square Feet: 1,776
  • Price/SqFt: $123.82
  • 3 Bedrooms, 2 Bath
  • Built in 1970
  • This is an awesome home in the beautiful Sunnyside Beach Area. This home is one block from a dedicated beach, which means no one will ever build on this beach. This is regarded as one of the nicest (and quietest) dedicated beach areas on Panama City Beach. This home needs a little work, but not much. It has a spacious floor plan with a neat, renovated master bathroom. This would make a great rental.

Deal 3 – Waterfront Wild Heron Condo

  • List Price: $289,000
  • Square Feet: 1,711
  • Price/SqFt: 168.91
  • 3 Bedrooms, 3 Bath
  • Built in 2004
  • We are no strangers to Wild Heron, and that community is so HOT right now with over 12 closings in there so far this year. Of course, with prices like this, its no wonder, these condos are top notch, from the ground up. And the community is second to none in Panama City Beach, truly one-of-a-kind with superb amenities that emulate a lifestyle that at one point would cost you close to a million dollars to buy into. This condo is a one-owner, live in that has been spectacularly taken care of. This is a short sale listing, that is actually Karen’s listing, and I’ve been told the bank is being very communicative.

Joey's Java Juice Closes Two of Three Locations

After being open just 4 months, Joey’s Java Juice on Harrison Avenue in downtown Panama City closed its doors Monday.  Amid economic pressure and decreased consumer spending I guess the new location just couldn’t hang in there.

Joey’s Java Juice had been recently purchased from Joey Purvis by Bill and Cindy Holt.  Shortly after their purchase, they moved quickly to open the new location in place of  Harrison Avenue’s Strange Brew Coffee House.

Joey’s Harrison Avenue and Front Beach Road location are closed with the Back Beach Road location set to stay open.

“The other locations just weren’t making enough money,” said an employee of the Bach Beach Road shop, “we have a much larger menu at this location and see a lot more traffic because of the location.”

Having known Joey, I’m sad to see any of them close down, but I am glad that the one that stayed open is right down the street from me.

Jason = MIA

I promise that I’ve got some great stuff on the Pier Park Beach Ball Drop New Year’s Eve Party.  I promise to get up a video ASAP.  The event was unbelievable.  There were thousands of people there.

The marketing team at Pier Park did an amazing job of putting together a great event, Dan Rowe and the CVB did an amazing job of getting the word out – we interviewed many that were from out of town.  Margaritaville presented the whole event, and them along with the other sponsors, the whole thing was well supported and very well received.

Again, kudos to all those involved – it was a huge success.

With a new baby, the Christmas Holiday, the New Year’s holiday and now we’re moving to a larger house that better fits the needs of our growing family, I’ve been super tied up, but promise that things will get back to normal next week.

Happy new year everyone, and thanks for reading.

Bike Stolen at Bike Week

Friends, fellow bikers and non-bikers alike, over the weekend, a reader was here participating in Bike Week and fell victim to theft.  Saturday night, September 27th, Joe was at Ms. Newby’s on Thomas Drive and left his bike, along with many others, parked in the Moby Dick parking lot, just down the street from Newbys.  Sometime between 9:30 pm and midnight, his bike was stolen.

The bike is a 2007 Harley Heritage, Dark Cherry and Pewter in color.  It has flame grips, rider floorboards, passenger floorboards, front brake pad, shifter pads, and a timer cover.  It also has Rush Slip-on pipes, and American and POW/MIA flags attached to the sissy bar.  According to Joe, the bike was parked under one of the lights in the parking lot.

Joe was told by the owner of Moby Dicks that no bikes were towed from his parking lot all weekend, nor do they have a security camera that may provide any leads.

A report has been filed with the Bay County Sheriff’s Office.

Please be on the look out for Joe’s bike, and if you should see something that looks suspicious, please contact the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, or you can contact me at jason@pcbdaily.com and I’ll forward any messages on to the owner of the missing bike.

No Newsletter Tonight

First off, I hope everyone’s Fourth of July was great, mine rocked.  I’m on holiday with my family, so I unfortunately did not get to partake in the Panama City Beach Fourth of July celebrations.  I heard they were awesome, except one guy said one of the bands wasn’t any good.

Needless to say, I won’t be doing much for posting news this week.  I’m on a much needed, long overdue vacation with my family.  In addition, for all you Panama City Beach junkies, there will be no newsletter tonight.  I’ve been keeping you all up to date with pcbdaily since September 2006 and haven’t missed a newsletter once.  On past vacations, I’ve worked right through, but not this time.

If you begin going through withdrawals, take heart, I’ll be back full speed next week.  I’ve got many plans for pcbdaily and a few additional ideas that I’m planning on bringing to fruition over the summer.

Have a great week, see ya’ll next week.
