James Cunnama Takes Florida Ironman Title

The day started out cool, but the water was relatively warm.  The professional triathletes entered the water at 6:50, with the age-group competitors starting shortly thereafter.  Over 2,500 total athletes raced Saturday with the fasted time being 8:15:29, by James Cunnama.  The women’s title was taken by Jessica Jacobs, who did an amazing 9:07:49, with an over 6 minute lead over second place, Erica Csomor.

The BP Effect on a Smaller Scale

The BP Effect series is brought to you by attorneys Reich & Binstock and Seeger Weiss LLP, which are helping businesses in Panama City Beach recover losses sustained directly and indirectly from the Deep Water Horizon oil spill. They can help your business too,

We’ve talked about how this summer’s oil spill scare effected large-scale marinas, restaurants, property management companies and retail, but today, we’re going to take it a notch and talk about how this mess effected a home-owner.  The Balmy Oasis Cottage is a small beach cottage that owner Pat Guin rents out on her own.  She and her husband bought it as an investment and rely on rental revenue to make payments and cover costs of ownership.  This summer was tremendously painful for their “business”, but with pockets of “blessings”, they made it.  Here’s her story.

Fall Back Your Clocks This Weekend

Don’t forget this is the weekend to set your clocks back an hour.  This Sunday morning, November 7th at 2 am, clocks should be moved back one hour, taking an hour away from daylight in the evening and giving it to the morning.

Each year, standard time begins on the first Sunday of November and ends on the second Sunday in March – which will fall on March 13, in 2011.

Named Daylight Savings Time, this was formally started in the US in the early 1900’s, but isn’t followed in Hawaii or Arizona.  If you’re thinking we’re changing our clocks back later in the year, it’s because in 2007, the length of Daylight Savings Time was extended a month in 2007.

In Panama City Beach, our “winter” time brings the dark early, at around 5 pm every day, since we are so close to the eastern time zone.  Winters are warm, here though, with some of the most scenic beach times happening in the months of November, December and January.

Weekend Weather – Frost Alert

This week we had a chance to see the fierce beauty of the beaches during a storm. It will most likely have passed through by the time most weekenders arrive, though it’s been exciting to see the competitors cruising around the course all week here. This weather should be much nicer for the triathletes as they swim the Gulf, bike the county and run the east end of the beach this weekend. On Friday night, Clint Black will be performing under the stars at Pier Park, do bring a nice jacket because there will be a breeze. There’s even more to do and taste this weekend, and the weather will be fall perfect.  You might want a cover up on the sand in the mornings.

The BP Effect – Best Beach Getaways’ 40% Gains – Lost

The BP Effect series is brought to you by attorneys Reich & Binstock and Seeger Weiss LLP, which are helping businesses in Panama City Beach recover losses sustained directly and indirectly from the Deep Water Horizon oil spill. They can help your business too,
http://g.adspeed.net/ad.php?do=js&aid=93807&target=_blank

“Sonny’s Oil Free Guarantee” was designed to reassure guests and customers that it was safe to travel to the beach.  We had no oil on our beaches over the summer, but with the seemingly imminent threat and false reporting by national media on the condition of our beaches, travelers were scared to risk their annual vacation money on a Panama City Beach vacation.  The “oil free guarantee” was a tactic used by businesses all up and down the beach to reassure their guests that they would not be obligated to keep their reservation and payment commitments should oil muck up their vacation on the Emerald Coast.  It worked for some, but business was still down dramatically for Best Beach Getaways.
