LoCash Cowboys Play at Tootsies

If you were following my Tweets Saturday night, then you know I was at Tootsies Orchid Lounge in Pier Park in Panama City Beach covering the LoCash Cowboys performing live, and boy were they awesome – tons of energy and talent.

They came by in promotion of their appearance in BamaJam and in promotion of the event as a whole.  BamaJam will actually feature Kid Rock, Brooks and Dunn, Alan Jackson, The Black Crowes, Taylor Swift and tons of other big names.

With their huge fancy looking tour bus parked on the sidewalk they performed with all their hand and head accesories shining in the stage lights.  The dance floor was packed with old and young alike getting their groove on and enjoying the live music.  One old guy was playing the “air” fiddle with his cane on his arm.  Welcomed by “Preston,” one of the lead singers, he signaled his violinist to play a solo in encouragement of the crowd’s enthusiasm.

The LoCash Cowboys put on a very energetic performance that included boisterous movements all over the stage. I actually quite enjoyed it, even though I’m not a huge country music fan.

Randy Houser – Another Big Name comes to Tootsies in Pier Park

021909_randy_houserAs the word gets out, Tootsies Orchid Lounge in Pier Park continues its success with another appearance from a big name in the world of honky tonk and country music.  Randy Houser recently showed up and played a few sets as fans watched and marveled at how the word has gotten out that little ‘ol Panama City Beach is the place to go if you are a country star and are wanting to go to the beach.

With our sugar white sands and awesome winter weather, who wouldn’t want to come here, right?  Alright, enough with the PCB commercial stuff.

According to his web site, Randy Houser was born and raised in central Mississippi.  His mentor and main motivation for his musical career came from his father, who was also a singer/songwriter.

With several videos on CMT.com, he seems to be quite popular and definately a welcome addition to the many that have come and will come in the future to Tootsies Orchid Lounge in Pier Park.

Huge Country Name Played at Tootsies in Pier Park

010509_jamey_johnsonSinger/songwriter and Grammy nominee, Jamey Johnson played at Tootsies in Pier Park Friday night.  “His guitarist called me at 4 pm and asked if they could play that night,” said Stephen Dibble, “they ended up staying and playing two sets, it was a great night.”

Tootsies Orchid Lounge originated in Nashville, TN and was made popular by their openly encouraging artists to just “stop by” and play a set.  With roots that include country music legends such as Willie Nelson, Roger Miller, Kris Kristofferson, and Waylon Jennings, today, it isn’t uncommon for big-name artists to drop in for a “hollar and a swallar.”

With the birth of Pier Park, Tootsies realized the perfect opportunity to expand into a growing area and be a part of a development unlike anything in Northwest Florida.  Pier Park brings tremendous adventure to all those that are wanting to shop, eat, be entertained or take part in an awesome New Year’s Eve party.

The customary norm that has made Tootsies so famous in Nashville has rubbed off on our little location in Panama City Beach with the appearance of Jamey Johnson Friday night.  I can’t say with confidence that he is the first big name that has dropped in, but I can say that he is a high profile and very talented artist.

Currently he is ranked in the top ten on Billboard.com for country songs and is expected to grow in popularity in the coming weeks.  A few weeks back, he appeared on the David Letterman show and has made several “best” lists in 2008 including Rolling Stone’s Best Albums of 08, AOL’s Best Album, New York Times Best Album list, DallasNews.com best CD and tons more.

Talking to Stephen, he said that the touring season starts in a couple months and we should expect more artists of this caliber this season.  I’m currently working with Tootsies to keep all of you up to date as to what is happening there.  If you haven’t been, you should check it out.  I was there New Year’s shooting some footage (forthcoming) and it was so packed, we could hardly move.

A Pier Park Summer – Video

Throughout the summer, I spent considerable time at Pier Park capturing varying aspects of life at Pier Park.  Mall management was gracious enough to allow me roof access to gain some of these stunning shots.  I spent over a cumulative 12 hours capturing and several hours editing to complete this timelapse of Pier Park in Panama City Beach.

The process included setting up my Canon Digital Rebel EOS Xti 10.1 on a tripod with a timer set at varying intervals between 1 to 3 seconds.  In other words, every second or few, the camera would automatically take a picture while I sat with my headlamp pointing towards a good book.  Often passersby would inquire as to what I was doing.

Some shots would take up to 60 minutes to capture and the final video utilizes over 6,000 still photographs.  In true time-lapse fashion, some shots may seem to linger, use this time to enjoy the nuances of seeing thousands of people pass in just seconds.

I created the whole production in full HD 1080i, but the online version is a much paired down 1280×720.  The full version is available for purchase on a DVD for $12.  Email me at jason(at)pcbdaily.com if you would like to purchase the full-sized version.

Pier Park Nears Completion

With many more stores set to open right around the corner, crews tirelessly work to get the rest of Pier Park ready for the masses. I was there yesterday morning and more signs are up with the interiors of retailers such as Hollister, American Eagle and Borders Books and Music are quickly taking shape.

I got to peek inside Borders, and it looks done to me. I was told that it was one of five of their largest stores nationwide. They are recruiting management from within their ranks from around the country to come down and take over. They open on May 2nd.

Among the retailers just announced are Olive Garden, Great American Cookie Company, Maurices, Famous Footwear, Red Robin Gourmet Burgers, Blender A Fusion Clothing Store, The Eye Gallery, Carter’s Children’s Apparel, Shimmering Seas Jewelery & Gifts, Cute N’ Sassy Children’s Boutique and Things Remembered.
