Update – First Family Visit to Panama City Beach Confirmed

It’s official – President Barack Obama, wife Michelle and daughters Malia and Sasha will be vacationing here in Panama City Beach from Saturday August 14th to Monday, August 16th 2010.

This will only be the third time that the whole first family has come to the area on vacation – so like him or not, this is set to be a significant event in Panama City Beach history! Confirmed by the white house, the presidential visit is a personal trip with no business or public events planned. There’s some speculation about accommodations but a source states that the Obamas will be staying at the Bay Point Marriott Golf Resort & Spa. Another source says the hotel location will not be within Panama City Beach limits.

We’ll have to wait and see what happens next weekend once the first family touches down in Panama City Beach, but PCBDaily.com will keep you updated with details as they come in.

5 Cooler Weather Fall Festivals to Look Forward To

The kids aren’t back in school yet, seasonal events are still happening all across town – but summer is slowly drawing to a close, although you wouldn’t know it from the still blistering temperatures outside! This is the time of year when we start looking forward to cooler weather and all the great things that come with fall in Panama City Beach. Autumn festivals have always been one of the best reasons to visit and celebrate our destination once the summer season is over, and this year will be no different. Here are 5 of the top fall festivals we can look forward to in the upcoming months. Continue reading “5 Cooler Weather Fall Festivals to Look Forward To”

First Family to Vacation in Panama City Beach

Like him or not, President Obama and his family might be in Panama City Beach for a “personal” vacation August 14 to enjoy our emerald green waters and crystal white sand, the same as hundreds of thousands of tourists do each year.  Note the word, “might”, used in the first sentence.

Local media outlets owned by Freedom Communication (News Herald, Walton Sun, and the Northwest Florida Daily News) have all reported that they will be vacationing in Panama City Beach.  However, the only release I can find states that they will be visiting the Gulf Coast area with the specific area being, at this time, undisclosed.

Locals Favorite Pizza Place – Panama Pizzeria

If you want some good local Italian food, you’ve got to check out Panama Pizzeria, formerly Joey’s on the Beach II.  This quaint pizza joint is located at the Y of Highway 79 and Front Beach Road and is perfect for a quiet date night, watching the game or taking your baseball team for a treat after taking the win.

I’ve eaten there a number of times in the past and have always enjoyed the fun atmosphere, good service and delicious food.  Of course, what’s more is the affordable price.  You can usually get in and out of there fur less than $12 for lunch for two.

One of the funnest aspects was the traditional style by which the food is prepared, namely the high tosses of the pizza dough.  This was a show to enjoy.  With several TV adorning the walls, this is a great place to catch the game and a cold beer.

Another cool thing is that they’ll put just about anything you want on a pizza.  I had a supreme and my wife got a vegetarian special with broccoli and all.

The food was great, the atmosphere fun and good times were had by all.

Breakfast Point Marketplace: Now a Thriving Shopping and Dining Area

Remember when Breakfast Point Marketplace was just a new Publix grocery store and then to the delight of just about everyone, a Dunkin’ Donuts? In a seemingly short space of time, this centrally located shopping and dining area has transformed from a relatively empty space to a busy center that now offers many conveniences and some of our favorite names. I can’t even remember what I did before this handy little plaza came to be – but I do know that I would be lost without it! Breakfast Point Marketplace is a wonderful addition to Panama City Beach, and now that most of its stores are open for business, here’s a rundown of what you can find there. Airport Traffic up almost 200% Over Last Year, Despite Oil Crisis

In a recent airport authority board meeting, Airport Director reported to the board that traffic at the new Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport was up almost 200% over the traffic at the old Panama City airport during June of 2009.  This is great news as traffic is higher than anticipated and surely a shot in the arm to our local economy and shot over the bow of airport nay-sayers.
