Fresh Apalachicola oysters, on the half shell or baked, shrimp po-boys, grilled or blackened fresh fish baskets, crawfish etouffee bowl – is your mouth watering yet?  These are just a few of the mouth-watering menu items to be found at a local favorite, Bayou On The Beach, located on Middle Beach Road in Panama City Beach.  Having been in business since 1999, the Buxtons are not new to the restaurant business here on the beach.  They’ve had good years and they’ve had bad years, this year was supposed to be better than them all, but the BP oil spill changed everything.

If you’re in the market for a kayak, Sunjammers Watersports in Panama City Beach is the place to go.  There are few others that sell kayaks in the area, but during the summer 2010, they sold 40% what they sold in the summer of 2009 – and kayak sales is their bread and butter.  Luckily, low overhead and a diversified selling strategy allowed them to keep their doors open.  The BP Effect was clear and present for Sunjammers this summer.  Not only were kayak sales way down, other aspects of their business they were growing saw a fraction of the growth they were expecting.

August Bed Tax Numbers CRUSHED, Worse than July

Like igniting gun powder on an open wound, August’s bed tax collection numbers were a piercing pain in an open wound.  We talked about last month that July’s bed tax collection numbers were down 14.58% total, including the normal first three cents combined with the additional 4th and 5th cent.  As if that wasn’t bad enough, August’s numbers were just released and rang in at 14.74% down over August of 2009.  Remember, this number is a comparison of year over year and fails to take into consideration the potential for increase as a result of normal growth and the explosion we were expecting this summer with the opening of the new airport and millions of extra marketing dollars being pumped into this area.

VIDEO: From The Stage: Thunder Beach Weekend

Although this weekend’s Thunder Beach event was not as thunderous as its Spring time sibling, there was still excitement in the air, great weather and action-packed venues for beach vacationers. One such venue, Marriott Bay Point, rocked hard with the Steve Wiggin’s band who, along with pcbdaily.com’s very own David Goldflies (bass), Steve Cosper (guitar), Linwood (drums) and Art (sax) put on a searing performance. We wanted to write a article that captured the venue’s vibe, but we figured a video from the stage might put you into the groove. Enjoy.

Closing Delays: Part 2

Last week we discovered some of the hold ups and glitches that keep a property from closing on time. We are going to continue on in that vein since the causes are many and being educated seems to keep the frustration level to a bare minimum.

I know everyone has heard that appraisals, or the lack thereof, have been a bone of contention for many a Real Estate transaction. Customers are sometimes shocked to find that the property is not appraising for what they thought and many times there are simply no available current comps to go by. The new Home Valuation Code of Conduct, or HVCC has further added to the delay, Continue reading “Closing Delays: Part 2”
