Free Clint Black Concert in Pier Park Draws Thousands

The crowd was standing or sitting in their chairs and blankets, cuddled up into each other’s arms Friday night at Pier Park. All waiting and trying to see the stage where Clint Black would perform. The lights went down and at the sound of a guitar the audience jumped up with enthusiastic screams.  Clint Black, with his signature black cowboy hat, brought some heat into the cold night air.

Black crooned, “The shoes he’s wearing, They don’t make the man.” The uplifting reference to the economy and the tough times the Gulf Coast has gone through in the past 200 days emanates with this crowd. Even though not everyone had the perfect view, Black singing to this crowd made the night perfect. Black’s free performance Friday night was to show the importance of Northwest Florida’s community and that we are still strong.

Black is just a recent example of the new “Back to the Beach – Fall Back into Summer” campaign hosted by Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association. The “Back to the Beach – Fall Back into Summer” campaign is that, “we’re fighting that [negative] perception, our beaches are still beautiful, our sand is still white,” said Carol Dover, the CEO and President of Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association. All of this is funded from a $700,000 grant that FRLA secured from the money BP is giving the Florida government. “Back to the Beach – Fall Back into Summer” is just the beginning of what FRLA will be promoting throughout the off season, keep your eyes out for more information! What was your favorite Clint Black song from last night?
