Panama City Beach and the immediate surrounding area offers some of the top fishing in the country. It doesn’t mater if you want to stalk the redfish on the flats of West Bay in inches of water, look for that gator trout in slightly deeper water or slide into the Gulf of Mexico and try your hand at bottom fishing or blue water trolling. Don’t think that salt water is all PCB has to offer, within a very short drive you have numerous fresh water lakes and rivers to target all the major species of panfish, bass, and strippers.
Here are four fantastic reason’s Panama City Beach is THE Ultimate fishing town in the good ‘ol US of A.
Pier Fishing
People drive from all over the southeast to fish one on of the 3 piers Panama City Beach has to offer with 2 being over 1600 feet long making them the longest on the gulf coast. Fish for cobia, king mackerel, Spanish mackerel, flounder, red fish, pompano, just to name a few. The last few years sailfish and tarpon have also been caught from the 2 longer piers.
Inshore Fishing
Our inshore fishing is as good as it gets east of Louisiana. If there is a major, or not so major, redfish tournament within 50 miles of west bay you can rest assured more than a few anglers will make the long run to target the larger “slot” redfish west bay is known for. Flounder are also a popular target species in the local waters, soaking a live bull minnow on the bottom or working that soft plastic just right will produce quality flounder that seem to taste better when you stuff it with locally caught blue crab!
Kayak Fishing
Kayak Fishing is growing in popularity worldwide, and that is no different in PCB. Panama City Beach offers exceptional bottom fishing very close to shore giving the kayakers a unique advantage to launch directly from the beach, and catch their limit of snapper and grouper before lunch without burning a ounce of fuel. Inshore the kayak also gives an angler the unique advantage of fishing the creeks and acres of grass flats. Trolling the gulf for kings also draws kayak anglers from all over the southeast. Theres nothing quite like getting pulled around in a kayak by a smoker king.
Offshore Fishing
Offshore fishing is as good as it gets, catching a limit of snapper, grouper, and amberjack is an easy task for even the most novice angler. If your boatless then don’t worry, Panama City Beach has enough charter boats to go around. PCB has some of the most experienced captains on the Gulf Coast. They’re sure to fill a box with fish and provide enough memories for a lifetime. Panama City Beach also is home to one of the primer Invitational billfish tournaments, Bay Point Invitational Billfish Tournament. This tournament has weighed the 2 heaviest blue marlins in the state of Florida, one of those being the 14th heaviest blue Marlin in the world.
Panama City Beach is truly a year round fishing paradise, fishing inshore year round is productive and the off shore bite in the summer months is stellar. So what are you waiting for, go wet and line, enjoy mother nature and while your at it take a kid fishing.
