New Preschool in Panama City Beach – PCB Academy

A much needed preschool will open in Panama City Beach this week. PCB Academy, catering to children from ages 2 to 5, features an Early Preschool program, Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten. Their website advertises that they beleive that children learn by doing and offer stimulating activities using challenging materials.

PCB Academy uses the High Scope curriculum that utilizes specific “centers” that promote active learning. The interest areas are broken into different categories: block area, house area, small tow area, book area, sand and water area and art area. By doing variations of the same thing each day, progressing throughout the year, the students are given a sense of routine, allowing them to grow to expect what happens next.

PCB Academy had an open house last Wednesday and I was told by some that attended that everything was quite impressive. Having children, I know there is a huge void in the area of quality child care in our area, so I’m excited to see this new school come online on the beach.

The school opens Monday June 2 with the hours from 7am to5:30pm Monday through Friday.

New Hooters on Panama City Beach

Wow, that was quick. It was just a couple of weeks ago they were putting the roof on this place. They couldn’t have been building this place for more than three months and it is opened.

Across the street from the navy base, Coastal Palms is the newest commercial development starting to come to life on the beach.

Burger King and Bruster’s Ice Cream opened a few months ago with La Quinta having been opened for over a year.

New Publix Opened in place of old Delchamps

At the intersection of Thomas Drive and Magnolia Beach Road (the road that takes you to Bay Point) the new Publix has finally opened. In the mid to late 1990’s, Delchamps was the resident grocer there.

The shopping center was purchased in 2005 and renovations began early last year. The whole facade was completely redone and the spot where the Delchamps was placed was completely demolished. The Publix is brand new, from the dirt up.

New developments on Thomas Drive

I don’t drive down Thomas Drive very often, but when I did the other day I was quite pleasantly surprised to find a new development area has been moving along quickly.

Directly across from the Navy base a new development named Coastal Palms has all-of-a-sudden come to life. The developer built a La Quinta Inn that opened I think last year, but it may have been open longer. Various out-parcels have been sold and a Brewster’s Ice Cream and Burger King have recently opened.
