Proud of their latest destination portfolio addition, Southwest Airlines included Panama City as one of their top stories in their first edition In A Nutshell email newsletter.  “Grab your beach ball, it’s on!” the first sentence says.  Other announcements in the newsletter include a Bags Fly Free Video Contest and an introduction to their “Green Plane”.

Thought this was cool as there’s no telling how many people saw this.  My dad sent it to me, and he’s in Dallas, TX.

Emerald Coast Cruizin's Expectin 4,000 Cars, Perfect Weather PICTURES

After a lousy three days, this morning awoke with a perfectly deep blue sky speckled with cute, fluffy white clouds and the sound of chunky V-8’s rumbling down Back Beach Road on their way to register for this weekends Emerald Coast Cruizin Classic Car Show.  Held in Frank Brown Park in Panama City Beach, this is the fifth year that Emerald Coast Cruizin has come to our beach, and myself as well has thousands from all over the Southeast United States are glad to have perfect weather on the forecast for the rest of the weekend.

State of Emergency – Tropical Storm Ida and Panama City Beach

Tropical Storm Ida, quickly making her way through the Gulf of Mexico is set to give Mobile and Pensacola a near direct hit tomorrow morning.  Panama City Beach has been overcast with Ida’s girth since early this morning, and we’ve seen wind gusts of up to 20 mph.  We were out on the new Russell-Fields Pier this morning and captured dozens of surfers sharing the huge waves that came in nice even sets with smooth breaks in between.

Read on for video, tips on hurricane preparedness, and info on closings tomorrow, etc.

Taste of The Beach FLA HUGE Success

Friday night, the second annual Taste of The Beach Panama City Beach edition (properly known as Taste of The Bay) was packed out with wet palettes, hungry bellies and super fancy diggs.  With literally hundreds in attendance, the main boardwalk area of Pier Park was closed off to cars and rang entertainingly with smooth music and relaxed conversational banter.  We gave away 8 tickets and hundreds more were sold online.

For the 11th year in a row, Ironman Florida brings the race back to the warm Gulf waters of Panama City Beach.  Last year’s event was a blast with many walking (or limping) away with personal best records and Bella Bayliss walking away with the trophy.  This year’s event will start out in the Gulf behind Boardwalk Beach Resort and the final runners at the end of the race will finish their day at Spinnaker Beach club.

Pineapple Willy’s Raises $3500 for the New Public Library

This past Friday, in an event that featured the famous Pineapple Willy’s BBQ and inspiring blues from the acclaimed Johnnie Marshall Band, Panama City Beach officials and library supporters danced the night away as they raised money to help furnish the son-to-open new public library. Details of Southwest Airlines and St. Joe "Partnership"

It was made quite clear by Bob Montgomery, Vice President of Properties for Southwest Airlines, that if it weren’t for St. Joe, Southwest Airlines wouldn’t be coming to Panama City.  The discussions between St. Joe and Southwest Airlines began over a decade ago.  One of the things that was explained to me a short while ago was that Southwest Airlines can go where ever they want to go; they just pick an airport, and the airport accommodates.  I was told that Southwest coming to Panama City made absolutely no sense from a business perspective and the prospect encompassed more risk than a company like Southwest would be willing to take.  But, what if the risk was mitigated by a third party?  That was their ticket into our market.

Read on for all the facts.

Pensacola Paper Shows Bitterness towards Southwest

In an article in the Pensacola News Journal, writer Carlton Proctor is open with his resentment towards Southwest Airlines in an unrealistic bash on the popular airline.  Southwest Airlines recently chose the New Northwest Florida Panama City International Airport as their newest addition to an already vast portfolio of service areas.  Proctor uses casual banter and poorly researched and inaccurate facts to make an argument that is neither relevant nor credible.

Read on to see how I break down his “paper.”
