Election – New School Board Members, Same County Commission

With two of the three county commission seats narrowly retained Bill Dozier smashed his opponent, John Salak by almost 7,000 votes, 19,399 to 12,701. Mike Thomas won 9,885 to Jim Lawson’s 9,034.

Ryan Neves took out Johnny Brock a whopping 19,231 to 13,444.

New Airport is on Schedule – Construction Update

The construction of the new airport is on schedule with paving of the runway to begin in 12 weeks. With over 40 million cubic yards of material moved since the beginning, still much work is to be done – obviously.

Grand Lagoon National – First Night's Festivities – Video

The spirits were good and the mood, well, musical – country to be specific. In light of the postponement of the fishing tournament section of the Grand Lagoon National, the organizers decided to continue with the entertainment festivities. The attendance was low, as I’m sure one would expect since the main attraction wasn’t taking place, but there was still plenty of people having fun.

No Fishing at the Grand Lagoon National

Well, no fishing this week, at least.

Welcome to Grand Lagoon National – Video and Almost Live Coverage

That’s right, you read correctly. Almost live coverage of the Grand Lagoon National Fishing Tournament. By Almost Live, I mean that I’ll be posting tournament results and updates as often as I can, but not exactly as they occur.

Crews were getting set up today for the events to start tommorrow, a day later than originally planned due to Tropical Storm Fickle Fay. Of course, now, Fay is expected to make her way back over our area Friday and Saturday.

Swim with a Red Flag, Get a Ticket

“Do you think a ticket system will help deter people from entering dangerous waters on Panama City Beach?” This was the latest pcbdaily poll trying to determine whether this would be an effective deterrence strategy and help reduce drownings in our warm gulf waters.

There wasn’t exactly a colossal difference between those who voted for the ticket strategy and those who voted against officers being empowered to ticket those ignoring the flag warning system. The poll ended with 55% voting for and 45% voting against.
