New City Park on the Beach in the Works

At a recent Panama City Beach City Council meeting, it was decided to move forward with figuring out how to obtain some Gulf-front property and build a city owned and maintained park.  This a much wanted city amenity and the city of Panama City Beach wants to take advantage of a down real estate market to snatch up some land at a good deal, if they can secure a grant to do so.

Obama Family Vacations in Panama City Beach

This past weekend was probably one of the biggest weekends Panama City Beach has ever seen.  I speak not in magnitude of tourist dollars being spent, but in global fame enjoying the same amenities that hundreds of thousands enjoy every year.  Regardless of opinion of the visitors, Panama City Beach is definitely on the map now.  Panama City Beach was THE Presidential buzz last weekend.

NOAA Opens More Waters for Fishing

From the NOAA site:

A National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) official announced at a Panama City Beach press conference today the reopening of 5,144 square miles in the Gulf to finfish fishing.

NOAA Administrator Dr. Jane Lubchenco visited Capt. Anderson’s Marina to inform commercial and recreational fishermen that the federal waters from Pensacola to Cape San Blas and south into the open Gulf are open, as no oil has been observed in those waters since July 3.

Fish caught in the area, she said, have shown no signs of contamination but would be further tested.

Update – First Family Visit to Panama City Beach Confirmed

It’s official – President Barack Obama, wife Michelle and daughters Malia and Sasha will be vacationing here in Panama City Beach from Saturday August 14th to Monday, August 16th 2010.

This will only be the third time that the whole first family has come to the area on vacation – so like him or not, this is set to be a significant event in Panama City Beach history! Confirmed by the white house, the presidential visit is a personal trip with no business or public events planned. There’s some speculation about accommodations but a source states that the Obamas will be staying at the Bay Point Marriott Golf Resort & Spa. Another source says the hotel location will not be within Panama City Beach limits.

We’ll have to wait and see what happens next weekend once the first family touches down in Panama City Beach, but PCBDaily.com will keep you updated with details as they come in.

First Family to Vacation in Panama City Beach

Like him or not, President Obama and his family might be in Panama City Beach for a “personal” vacation August 14 to enjoy our emerald green waters and crystal white sand, the same as hundreds of thousands of tourists do each year.  Note the word, “might”, used in the first sentence.

Local media outlets owned by Freedom Communication (News Herald, Walton Sun, and the Northwest Florida Daily News) have all reported that they will be vacationing in Panama City Beach.  However, the only release I can find states that they will be visiting the Gulf Coast area with the specific area being, at this time, undisclosed.
