This weekend will be an action-packed one here in Panama City Beach, with larger events, such as UNwineD and the Ironman competition, overshadowing some of the other events. Take a look at the other events taking place this weekend!

Madonnaro

November 4th-November 6th, Pier Park

The Visual Arts Center of Northwest Florida brings you Madonnaro! This will be the sixth year these event has been held, and is always a crowd-pleaser. Artists are encouraged to paint (with chalk paint) an 8×10-ft spot on the sidewalk, supplies will be provided. Artists will begin work each day at 9am. Friday night at 6pm, saxophonist Chris Godber will be performing while a featured artist creates performance art and “paints with fire.” This event is one-of-a-kind!

Deck the Palms

November 4th-November 6th, Palms Conference Center

Transforming the Palms Conference Center into a winter wonderland, Deck The Palms promises to offer great deals to price-conscious shoppers. This event is a must for those looking to get ahead on holiday shopping! Friday’s hours are 11am-8pm, Saturday the event will be open 9am-6pm, and Sunday the winter wonderland will be open 10am-3pm. Various booths will be set up to help you find the perfect gifts for everyone on your shopping list.

Friday Fest

November 4th, Downtown Panama City

For the last Friday of the season, Downtown Panama City will be lit up for Friday Fest! Music, food, and fun are bound to be had at the monthly street festival. In the spring, the first Friday of the month festival will start again.

Woodlawn Church Fall Festival

November 5th, Pier Park Amphitheater

Join the Woodlawn Church from 10am-2pm for inflatables, carnival games, stilt walkers, crafts, and live music! There will also be a dunking booth, a train ride, and more! If you get hungry, there will be hot dogs, chips, BBQ, soft drinks, ice cream, cotton candy, popcorn, and kettle corn. This event is free, and almost everything there will be free as well. Woodlawn is holding this event to reach out to the community, so don’t forget to bring a friend or two!

Ford Ironman Florida Takes the Beach

The 13th Annual Ford Ironman Florida will be held this weekend in Panama City Beach. Over 2,500 athletes from around the world area ready to compete in this year’s event, many hoping to qualify for the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii.

About Ironman Triathlons

There are over 30 sanctioned events throughout the world, as well as Ironman 70.3’s or Half-Ironman events. Ironmans are one of the long-distance series organized by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC). The first Ironman was held in February 1978, fifteen men began the race and twelve completed it. With no marketing, in 1979 when the race was held again, fifty participants gathered to compete. (Only fifteen competed due to harsh weather conditions.) It is often said that “there is no such thing as an easy Ironman” and also that “just finishing is a victory.”

About the Ford Ironman Florida

The Ford Ironman Florida includes a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride, and a 26.2-mile run. The 2.4-mile swim will consist of two laps in a rectangular shape out into the Gulf Coast after a mass-start. The bike lap will start at the Boardwalk Beach Resort on Front Beach Road and heading toward Highway 79, to Highway 20 and 77, and ending back at the Boardwalk Beach Resort. Finally, the run, which is one of the flattest on the Ironman circuit, will start at the Boardwalk Beach Resort and wind its way to St. Andrews Park. After St. Andrews Park, runners will make their way back to the Boardwalk Beach Resort to repeat the course again. There will be water, nutritional bars, nutritional gels, and fruit available to athletes throughout the bike and run sections of the event.

There are 65 spots available for athletes who qualify from this event in the Ironman World Championship on October 13, 2012 in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. Last year’s first place time was 8 hours 15 minutes and 59 seconds. There will be a total professional prize purse of $25,000 this year.

Relax and UNwineD This Weekend

The Panama City Beach Chamber of Commerce and The Tourism Development Council are bringing us “UNwineD: Vines and Steins” this weekend, a festival to celebrate local wines, craft beers, and cuisine as part of the “Taste of The Beach 2011.” The event will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Florida and the Panama City Beach Chamber of Commerce’s Education Foundation.

There will be over 120 wines, 60 craft beers, food from 20 restaurants, and local musicians playing throughout the evening. Alton Brown, host of “Good Eats” and “Iron Chef America,” will be in attendance. Brown will be explaining how to pair the beverages with foods, as well as hosting a cooking demonstration. Weekend passes are available for $80 online.

For $40, you can purchase a ticket to taste the wines and beers as well as culinary samplings from the area. Wander the streets of Pier Park while listening to local musicians and tastes of the coast.

Saturday, November 5th 6pm- Wyndham Bay Point Resort

Alton Brown’s cooking demonstration will be at 7:30pm, and is expected to last 90 minutes. He will also be signing his book (available at the event). There will also be samples of food from Executive Chef Julio Lucero prepared with a collection of beer and wines. This evening’s events will be $50.

No-Shave November Has Officially Begun

Whether you’re growing a beard or a mustache, November is the month to support men’s health. Growing in popularity this month-long event raises funds and awareness for men’s health.

Movember

Movember takes over “the month formerly known as November” encouraging men to sign up online, clean shaven. Throughout the month they shape and trim their mustaches into various styles. Funds raised throughout Movember address men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and other cancers that typically affect men. Men who participate, Mo Bros, become walking billboards for men’s health and cancers. Mo Bros also fundraise throughout the month, many reflecting on a family member’s battle with prostate cancer.

The Movember movement began in Australia and has spread across the world, raising over $174 million. There have been over 1.1 million Mo Bros and Mo Sisters registered throughout the history of the event. The amount raised in 2010 was double that of the fundraising dollars in 2009, reaching over $80 million. $7.5 million of that total was raised in the United States from over 64,500 people.

Where exactly does the money go? 13 percent of the money raised is used for administrative costs, while 4 percent is retained by Movember to cover future advertisements and to retain the long-term goals. 83% of the money collected is donated! The Prostate Cancer Foundation and LIVESTRONG each receive 35%, and the remaining 13% of funds are donated to Movember’s awareness and education programs.

Conservation Park Grand Opening

It’s opening day at Conservation Park and promises to be a day full of fun! Hot dogs and hamburgers will be served from 12pm-2pm, along with giveaways and other fun activities. The premise behind this park is to reclaim wetlands that were altered through tree-farming practices. Scarecrow Festival

Scarecrows will be decorating the streets of St. Andrews State Park for the 3rd Annual Scarecrow Festival. Many places compete based on pumpkin carving, but St. Andrews competes with Scarecrow customizing- make sure you check out this unique festival! Toys for Kids Annual Halloween Bash

Spinnaker will be hosting the Annual Toys for Kids Annual Halloween Bash, raising money for the Toys for Kids Foundation. This year’s theme is “Scary Tales.” Doors will open at 8pm, with at $10 cover for those 21 and up and a $20 cover for those under age 21. Over $1500 in cash and prizes will be given away and recipients including those participating in the costume contest. Judging for the contest will begin at 11:45pm and finals will be at 12:45am. Celebrating Halloween and raising money for local children, sounds like fun for a great cause!

Relay for Life Kick-Off Begins the 2012 Fundraising Season

Time to kick-off the 2012 fundraising season for the American Cancer Society! Panama City Beach’s Relay for Life will hold the event Kick-off on October 24th from 6pm-8pm at the Palm’s Conference Center. The actual Relay for Life date is set for April 13th, 2012 at J.R. Arnold High School from 6pm till 12pm on April 14th.

What is Relay for Life?

Relay for Life is the fundraising arm of the American Cancer Society, raising money for research and services for survivors and the caregivers as they undergo treatment. Relay for Life is a sixteen hour event (lengths of events will vary) where the community gathers to celebrate the survivors of cancer, their battle and their caregivers support, to remember those who have lost their fights against cancer, and to fight back against this disease. It’s a family friendly event designed to pull the community together for a cause.

What happens at kick-off?

Kicking off this years Relay for Life events: there will be a survivor to speak about the impact of Relay for Life on her journey with cancer, computers to allow you to sign up a team or as a survivor, information about team captain meetings, and most importantly excitement! Kick-off starts off the fundraising for the year officially, with excitement and determination for the day cancer is cured in mind. Kick-off provides the community with all of the information needed to start a team, fundraise individually, or sign-up as a survivor or caregiver.

The committee is currently recruiting teams to help in the fight against cancer! You can sign-up or donate at the Relay for Life Panama City Beach page, and you can register survivors there also! Little Black Dresses, Tigers, Clowns, and Jazz Music- Oh My!

Three events take the stage this weekend in Panama City Beach; the Little Black Dress party at The Boatyard, the Cole Brothers Circus, and the 11th Annual Jazz by the Bay Festival. No matter your interests one of these three events are sure to keep you entertained!

It’s the third Thursday of the month which means live entertainment, gift bags, appetizers, and for the ladies- free champagne! Chef Konrad will also be creating a new dinner special for the event. Cole Brothers Circus

Coming to Panama City Beach and Frank Brown Park is the Cole Brothers Circus, known as “The World’s Largest Circus Under the Big Top.” This circus strives to provide family-friendly entertainment to their visitors in a clean, courteous, and safe environment. Shows are at 7:30pm on Thursday and Friday, 1:30pm, 4:30pm, and 7:30pm on Saturday, and on Sunday at 1:30pm and 4:30pm. You can buy tickets at the Cole Brothers Circus website. General admission tickets are $14, with reserved tickets priced at $17 and VIP tickets being $20. You can also learn about the different acts and circus stars at the website. 11th Annual Jazz by the Bay Festival

October 21st-22nd, Oaks by the Bay Park

Bringing attention to jazz music, the Gulf Jazz Society is hosting the 11th Annual Jazz by the Bay Festival. In Historic St. Andrews, the two-day jazz music appreciation festival will be held by the water. Six bands are scheduled to play, including the all-star Dixieland and famous Bud Leeds Classic Jazz Band. You can read more about these bands here. The festival is free and open to the public, so bring a date or your family and listen to several different styles of jazz music.

Pirates of the High Seas Festival

October 7^th and 8^th, 2011

Pirates are invading Panama City Beach Friday and Saturday at the High Seas Festival. The festival will include pirate and wench costume contests, pet costume competitions, Mardi Gras style parades, beach ball drops, a 5K and half marathon, treasure hunts, face painting, pirate ship battles, children’s pirate parade, movie screenings, balloon making, and firework shows.

Camp Helen State Park Ghost Walk and History Tour

October 8^th, 2011

Saturday, for only $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children, you can join Camp Helen State Park for storytelling and historic re-enactments. The event will take place from 5 – 8:30pm and is family-friendly. Dress up in your favorite costume and bring a flashlight. Please park at Winn Dixie and ride the free shuttle if you are able, parking at the park is limited to handicapped.

7^th Annual Fall Into Edgewater

October 8^th– 10^th, 2011

Expecting a record number of athletes this year, is the Gymnastics Invitational competition at the Edgewater Beach Resort. USAG levels 2-10 will be competing based on Region 8 Rules and Florida Rules, as well as AAU levels 2-8. There will be a pool party from 6pm-8pm on Saturday to kick the competition off, followed by a weekend with two gyms full of talented gymnasts.

It’s a Country Music, Fishing, and Philanthropy Filled Weekend

This weekend Panama City Beach has a full line up and many options if you are looking for something to do. Country music, fishing contests, eating for a cause, and rubber ducks are headlining in this weekend’s events.

Country Music Fest

Friday and Saturday September 23^rd and 24^th

Country music artists Miranda Lambert and Jason Aldean will be coming to Panama City Beach’s Frank Brown Park in Pier Park this weekend. Miranda Lambert was first introduced to the public through Nashville Star, while Jason Aldean was introduced through his self-titled album. Tickets are available through lodging partners as well as Ticketmaster.

Gates will open at 6:30pm on Friday night for Justin Moore, The Randy Rogers Band, and Miranda Lambert. Saturday gates will open earlier for Corey Smith, The Dirt Drifter’s, and Jason Aldean.

Panama City Beach Sportfish Classic

Friday and Saturday September 23^rd and 24^th

Overnight fishing for Swordfish will begin on Friday, before anglers compete on Saturday for Blue Marlin, Tuna, Wahoo, and Dolphin. Weigh-ins will be on Saturday for both events and spectators are welcome to attend! The festival opens at 5pm on Saturday at the Lighthouse Marina and Boatyard Restaurant, with live music from 5pm-7pm, weigh-ins will be from 7pm-10pm, and the awards will be given out at 10:30pm or as soon as possible after the last fish is weighed in.

There will be a total of $100,000 given away in prizes this weekend, including $40,000 for the largest Blue Marlin catch. Fishing will begin at 2pm on Friday after the kick-off lunch and captains meeting. The event will be family friendly and a good time for everyone who wants to see some truly big fish!

Compassionate Chef’s For Kids benefitting Children’s Home Society of Florida

Saturday September 24^th

From 6pm-9pm this Saturday at the Holley Academic Center on the Panama City campus of Florida State University, the Children’s Home Society of Florida will be hosting the Compassionate Chefs for Kids. This is a “Cullinary Extravaganza” event, which will include food from twenty local chefs, live auction, silent auctions, as well as live entertainment. For general admission the event is $35, while for VIP admission is $75. VIP events will begin at 5pm.

This is the 8^th Annual culinary fundraiser, which is the signature fundraiser for the organization. The theme will be “Dine, Dance, Donate” this year. Some of the live entertainment will include Fred Astaire Dancers, Mark Harris, Mojo Rising, child performances, and more. The profits will go to the Children’s Home Society of Florida which serves abused children, adoptions, serves a local group home, and works with the Early Step’s program for mentally delayed children.

Beach Care Services Annual Duck Race and Cocktail Party

Tuesday September 27^th

From 5:30pm to 8:00pm, poolside at the North Tower of the Grand Panama Beach Resort the Beach Care Services will be holding their annual duck race. This isn’t your typicall duck race though! This involves adults on the back of giant rubber duckies in a pool, raising money to provide emergency financial assistance to the residents of Panama City Beach. The goal is to aid in the payment of household bills in order to prevent families becoming homeless. Last year this event raised almost $13,000 and they have high hopes to meet or exceed this amount this year.

The event will include food and drinks, cash prizes, and live entertainment from the Kevin Jacobs Band. Duck Race entries are $10 per person or five duck entries for $45. Little rubber ducks are also available for those who cannot physically attend the event. First prize is $500; second prize is $250, and third prize being $100.
