Video of Environmental Damage at New Airport Site

Having been up there, I was able to take video of the creeks and waterways that serve as the natural water run-off point for the new Panama City Airport.  Again, I was able to see no apparent damage or side-effects of any damage.  However, apparently, after the comments in the other post, I would need to be in a helicopter to observe the claimed negative effects the airport construction site is having on the environment.

Publix All Set to Open, Beckrich, er R Jackson Looking Good

The new Publix is all set to go and scheduled to open on May 20 in Panama City Beach.  Replacing the current location at the intersection of Middle Beach Road (Hutchison Blvd) and R Jackson Blvd (formerly Beckrich), the new Publix will be around 5,000 square feet larger ringing in at around 54,000 square feet.

I got a sneak peak inside yesterday and all the shelving is up and much of the store is stocked and ready to go.  “The shelved merchandise from the old store will go to other stores, it won’t come here,” said Tom Screws, the General Manager.

Along with the opening of Publix, will come a Dunkin Donuts and an Office Depot, although there is more specific news on the Office Depot in the video.  I will say I was a little disappointed.

In addition, the completed CRA on R Jackson Blvd (formerly known as Beckrich Road) is looking good.  The widening and overall beautifucation is a refreshing example of what all of our major traffic corridors will look like in due time.  I, as well as most of you, anxiously await the day when the rest of the CRA is complete.  I just hope they don’t rename every street that is redone.

I do have one question for city officials.  What is the maintenance program set in place for all the beautiful landscaping that was put in on Beckrich Road?  There are TONS of weeds coming up in the median and it will not take long for it to look taken over and very unkept.

Thunder Beach – Tire Burnout Until it Blows, Nick Lee VIDEO

Dubbed “The Burnout King“, Nick Lee, blew through tires Saturday on his modified Harley Davidson Sportster at Frank Brown Park in Panama City Beach.  Going through 150 tires and 2 bikes each year, he travels the country putting on performances at anything from motorcycle rallies to car shows.  From Wisconsin, he pretty much travels 24/7 now but hasn’t forgotten his northern accent.

Talking with Nick, he said this is actually quite difficult.  Afterwards he was out of breath.  “The bike wants to grab, so you have to hold it in place.”

Moto-Stunt Team at Thunder Beach – Kyle and Cody Ives VIDEO

This weekend, mini-celebrities Kyle and Cody Ives were at Frank Brown Park showing off their skills flying their freestyle motorcross bikes 35 feet in the air over a 65 foot gap.  Kyle and Cody’s family was recently on Wife Swap and will be featured on a reality TV show that will be aired on Cartoon Network next fall.

Cody, 16 has been riding since he was a kid and his brother, 15 has been riding since he was 3.

Volleyball Chick Faints, PCB Goes Viral

Wednesday morning, Nikki Allen, Director of Operations for the University of Southern California’s women’s volleyball program was interviewed on WMBB by Wayne Gentry and went down in YouTube fame.  As she was being interviewed by Wayne Gentry, she fainted on live tv.  WMBB was kind enough to upload it to YouTube and now, three days later the video has over 260,000 views.

Apparently Nikki flew in from California that morning, which must have been very early as the time on screen during the interview was 6:20.  I also read that this was her first time on TV and she was very nervous.  Whatever the case, I’ve been told that she’s ok now.

The faint happened behind Sharky’s Beach Club on Panama City Beach and was accompanied by Dan Rowe.  By the way, does anyone know what the question was that Dan answered Tanzania?

Encore Presentation, Pier Park Beach Ball Drop – Extended Version

The Beach Ball Drop was awesome, and Pier Park did a great job in executing this first of many New Year’s Eve events.

The production and editing on my part was lengthy, time consuming, and exhausting, to say the least, but it was fun, very fun. The first version of  the video was just over 7 minutes, but I decided to edit it down to around 5 minutes so as to prevent it from seeming to drag on.  However, the first video was so successful and so “talked about”, I decided to release the longer 7 minute version to feature longer interviews and more footage.

Enjoy, and thanks to Pier Park for sponsoring the production of this video!

Video of the New Airport

Well, someone else has outdone me.  There is a new video of the new Panama City airport up in West Bay that has been posted to the newpcairport.com web site.

Of course, I could probably put something together equally as awesome had I been given the opportunity to get on a helicopter!  Kidding, but not really.  Actually, I don’t know how to do those cool transitions – after effects?

Anyway, kudos to the creater – this vid is awesome.
